Should I include my spouse or children in the business?

Short answer here is yes, but you only want to include your spouse and/or children in the business if they fulfill a need or can provide value.

The trick here is while you may put your spouse and/or children on payroll, don’t bring them in to the day to day operations (physically) unless you truly need them.

Back into it this way. Are they the best fit for that job? If there’s a job available with a clearly defined job description, and your child or spouse can fill that job then that’s great. Bring them in. Otherwise, have them come on and do tasks that are easy to understand and pass over. Do not try to make a square peg fit in a round hole here.

Too many times your family judgement will cloud your business judgement. This sends mixed signals to other members of your team and can cause unnecessary problems.
